Calendar for May 20 - The appearance of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem
During the time of Emperor Constans, son of Saint Constantine, and Patriarch Kirill of Jerusalem, around 9 o'clock in the morning, the Holy Cross appeared in the sky above Golgotha, extending to above the Mount of Olives. He was brighter than the sun, and more beautiful than the most beautiful rainbow. The width of the Holy Cross was as long as its length. All the people in Jerusalem and the surrounding area, leaving their jobs, in fear and wonder, watched this heavenly sign. Then everyone hurried to the church, praising the Lord Jesus Christ. Many non-believers converted to the faith of Christ, and many heretical Arians returned to Orthodoxy. Patriarch Cyril wrote a letter about this sign to Emperor Constans, who himself was inclined to Arius' heresy. This event took place in 357 AD.
