Calendar for May 22 - Transfer of the relics of Saint Nicholas
During the reign of Emperor Alexius Comnenus and Patriarch Nicholas Grammaticus, the body of this saint was transferred from Myra Lycia to Bari, Italy. This was done because the Muslims were invading Lycia. Previously, the saint appeared in a dream to a priest in Bari and ordered his relics to be transferred to that city. At that time, Bari was an Orthodox city, under an Orthodox patriarch. During the transfer of the relics of Saint Nicholas, many miracles happened, both from the touch of the relics and from the peace that flowed abundantly from them, and they still happen today. On this day, the miracle when St. Nicholas restored sight to the blind Serbian king Stefan Dečanski is also mentioned. The transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas of Myrliki took place in 1087.
