Calendar for May 26 - Holy Martyr Gliceria
The daughter of a governor from Rome. After her father's death, she settled in Trajanopole in Thrace. In the time of Emperor Antoninus, she was brought out to sacrifice to the idol of Deus. She drew a cross on her forehead and at her prayer, lightning struck and broke the idol. After beating her, the governor threw her into a dungeon, which he sealed, with the intention of starving her to death. But Glyceria was fed by an angel of God, with heavenly food. When they opened the dungeon, they saw her healthy and cheerful, all bright. The jailer of Laodicea, seeing that miracle, believed in Christ and immediately beheaded him. And Gliceria was thrown into the fiery furnace, where she remained unharmed. Finally, they threw her in front of the lions, where the holy virgin gave her soul to the Lord. She died in 177. Myrrh flowed from her relics.
Martyr Risto (Jaramaz). Holy Martyr Alexander. Venerable Jovan, Yevtimij, Georgije and Gavril Iverski.
