Calendar for May 6 Saint George the Great Martyr – St. George’s Day
Having ascended the throne of the Roman Empire, the godless Diocletian took great care to promote impious idolatry. He especially revered Apollo as a supposed soothsayer, because a demon resided in the dead statue of Apollo, who gave answers to those who asked, falsely prophesying about the future, since his prophecies did not come true. Once Diocletian asked Apollo about something, and received this answer from the demon: I cannot truly predict the future, because the righteous people on earth interfere with me, and because of them the soothsayers lie in the idolatrous places; these righteous people destroy our power. – Then Diocletian questioned the priests: Who are these righteous people on earth, because of whom the god Apollo cannot prophesy? The priests replied: Christians are righteous in heaven.
