Calendar for November 10 Saint Arsenije of Srem
The successor of Saint Sava on the throne of the Serbian Church. Born in Srem. He became a monk in his youth and devoted himself to asceticism for the salvation of his soul. Hearing about Saint Sava and his work, Saint Arsenije went to him in Žič. Seeing his virtues, Saint Sava soon appointed him abbot of the Žiče monastery. When the Hungarians attacked the Serbian lands, Saint Sava sent abbot Arsenije south to look for a safer place for the archbishopric. He chose Peć and built a monastery there. Before his second journey to the Holy Land, Saint Sava appointed Arsenije as his successor on the archbishopric throne. He wisely governed the Serbian Church for 30 years. He gave up his soul to the Lord in 1266. His relics are in the Ždrebaonik monastery near Danilovgrad.
