Calendar for November 12 Saint King Milutin
Son of King Uroš I and Queen Jelena, brother of Dragutinov. He fought many wars, defending his faith and people. He fought against Michael Palaeologus because he accepted the union and forced other peoples in the Balkans to do so, even the monks on Mount Athos. He also fought against the Bulgarian Emperor Shishman and the Tatar Nogai. He trusted in God and prayed to God, and in all wars he was successful. He built over 40 churches and monasteries, including Gračanica, Banjska, Treskavac, St. George in Staro Nagoricani, the Most Holy Theotokos in Skopje, and outside his country in Thessaloniki, Sofia, Constantinople, Jerusalem, on Mount Athos… He reposed in the Lord in 1320. His incorrupt and miraculous relics rest in Sofia, in the Church of the Holy King.
