Calendar for November 15 Holy Martyrs Akindinus, Pigasius and Others with Them
Christians from Persia. Akindinus, Pigasius and Anempodistus were servants at the court of Emperor Sapor (Savory). When it was discovered that they were Christians, the emperor subjected them to torture and threw them into prison, where an angel of God appeared to them several times, and once the Lord Himself. When Aphthonius, one of the torturers, saw that the molten lead did not harm the martyrs, he exclaimed: “Great is the God of the Christians,” and immediately cut him down. Then the three martyrs were sewn into leather bags and thrown into the sea, but Saint Aphthonius and three angels rescued them. Finally, they were thrown into a fiery furnace, together with 28 soldiers and the emperor’s mother. The emperor's nobleman Elpidiphorus denounced the emperor for killing innocent people, said he was a Christian, and he was also beheaded, followed by 7,000 more people. They suffered in 355.
