Calendar for November 16 Renovation of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr George – Đurđic
This day also marks the transfer of the relics of Saint George from Nicomedia to Lydda in Palestine, where he suffered during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Before he gave up his soul to the Lord, Saint George asked his servant to take his body to Palestine, where his mother was from and where he had a large estate that he distributed to the poor. The servant did so. During the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, pious Christians in Lydda built a beautiful church dedicated to Saint George. During the consecration of that church, the saint’s relics were transferred to it. Countless miracles occurred from the relics of Saint George the Victorious, the Great Martyr of Christ. There is no number of his appearances, in dreams and in reality, to those who call upon him for help.
Hieromartyr Akepsis, Bishop of Naeson. Venerable Elijah of Egypt.
