He was born in the village of Marikati, in the Vitinija region. As a boy, looking after the sheep, he would fence the flock with the sign of baptism, and spend the whole day in prayer. He showed great courage in the army. Then he retired to Olim Asia where he became a monk and dedicated himself to the feat. He drove, in various places, for over 50 years. He received from God a great gift of miracle-working: he healed the sick, cast out demons, tamed beasts, he crossed over water as if on dry land, he was invisible to people when he wanted to, he prophesied. He had an extremely great calmness and meekness. And his body was a giant. The iconoclasts mocked him, but he quickly broke down and became a great supporter of icons. He passed away peacefully in 846, when he was 94 years old.
