Calendar for November 25 Saint John the Merciful
Born in Cyprus, into a Christian princely family. He married and had children. By God's providence, both his children and his wife passed away. During the reign of Emperor Heraclius, he was elected Patriarch of Alexandria. He governed the Church of Christ in Alexandria for 10 years. He was a model of meekness, mercy and love of humanity. While serving the Holy Liturgy, he remembered that a cleric was somewhat angry with him. And he left the Holy Gifts, approached that man and fell at his feet, asking for forgiveness. When the Persians attacked Egypt, he boarded a ship for Cyprus. On the way, he fell ill and when he arrived in his hometown, he gave up his soul to the Lord. It was in the year 620. His miraculous relics were transferred to Constantinople, then to Budapest-Pest and finally to Pressburg.
