Calendar for November 4 Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Abercius of Hierapolis
During the reign of Emperor Antoninus, he was bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia. Almost all the inhabitants of this city were pagans, and Saint Abercius diligently prayed to God to enlighten and enlighten them. During an idolatrous celebration, he burst into their temple and smashed all the idols. Three furious young men rushed at him, foaming and screaming. The saint cast out the demons from them, and they calmed down. Seeing this miracle, the pagans turned their anger into admiration, and immediately 500 of them were baptized, and soon the entire city. Saint Abercius restored sight to the blind mother of the antipater of that region, Publius, and they were both baptized. In his old age, in Rome, he healed the emperor's daughter who had gone mad. The Lord appeared to him several times. He died in old age in Hierapolis, at the end of the 2nd century.
