Calendar for October 1 Saint Eumenius of Gortyn
From his youth, he followed Christ, freeing himself from two heavy burdens: the burden of wealth and the burden of the body. He freed himself from the first burden by distributing all his wealth to the poor, and the second through great fasting. Thus, he first healed himself, and then began to heal others. Seeing how he was all radiant with the Holy Spirit, they chose him as bishop in Gortyn, in Crete, where he governed the flock of Christ as a good shepherd. He was a father to the orphans, a wealth to the poor, a healer of the sick. He performed many miracles through prayer: he killed a vicious snake, cast out demons, healed the sick, and not only in Gortyn, but also in Rome and Thebaid. In Thebaid, he brought rain through prayer during a drought. There he also gave up his soul to God. He lived in the 7th century.
Holy Martyr Ariadne. Holy Martyr Bidzin, Prince of Georgia.
