Calendar for October 10 Holy Martyr Callistratus
A native of Carthage. His ancestor Neocorus was a soldier under Pontius Pilate and, having seen many miracles at the death on the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, believed in Him. He was baptized by the apostles. When Callistratus was in the army, he was the only Christian in the regiment. Seeing him praying to God at night, one of his comrades reported him to Duke Persentinos, the great torturer of Christians. The duke ordered Callistratus to offer sacrifice to idols, and when he refused, he beat him and threw him into the sea. But God delivered him, and he came out of the sea completely healthy. Seeing his suffering and miracles, 49 soldiers believed in Christ. They also beat them and threw them into prison. After they bravely endured all the tortures, they killed them all in prison. They suffered in 304.
Holy Apostles Mark, Aristarchus and Zeno. Holy New Martyr Aquilina. Venerable Sabbatius of Solovetsky.
