Calendar for October 11 Venerable Chariton the Confessor - Michaelmas
A prominent citizen of Iconium, he publicly confessed Christ. When the persecution of Christians began under Emperor Aurelius, Chariton was immediately brought to trial and his entire body was turned into one wound. Then Emperor Aurelius died, and Chariton was released. On the way to Jerusalem, he was captured by robbers from whom, by God's providence, he was freed. Then he withdrew to the Paran Desert, where he founded a monastery. He left the constitution to that family and went to another desert, towards Jericho, where he founded another monastery, which was called Chariton's. Finally, he founded a third monastery, the Sukias. He gave up his soul to the Lord in old age, in the year 350. His relics are in the monastery he first founded. He is credited with the service of monastic tonsure.
Holy Prophet Baruch. Holy Martyr Mark, Shepherd. Holy Martyr Wenceslas, King of Bohemia.
