Calendar for October 14 Shroud of the Holy Mother of God
In the time of Emperor Leo the Wise (or the Philosopher), in 911, there was an all-night vigil in the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople. The church was full of people. In the background stood St. Andrew Jurodivi, with his disciple Epiphanius. At the fourth hour of the night, the Holy Mother of God appeared above the people with the omophorion spread out in her hands, as if covering the people. All of her shone in indescribable splendor, surrounded by apostles, saints, martyrs and virgins. Saint Andrew, seeing the Blessed One, pointed to her with his hand to blessed Epiphanius. Today's holiday was established to remind of that event, but also the continuous patronage of the Holy Mother of God to the Christian race. Her help, both to individuals and nations, has been confirmed countless times.
Holy Apostle Ananias. Venerable Roman Slatkopojac. Venerable Jovan Kukuzelj. Venerable Gregory.
