Calendar for October 15 The Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian
He moved from Carthage to Antioch, where the idol priest was Edessius. Edessius' daughter Justina learned the Christian faith, and converted her father and mother Cleodonia to it. Cyprian was a soothsayer, had dealings with unclean spirits, and was a fortune teller. A certain young man named Aglais wanted to seduce the virgin Justina and asked for help from Cyprian. Cyprian led evil spirits to Justina in order to inflame her passion for Aglais, but the holy virgin drove away the demons from her with the sign of the cross and prayer to God. Thus, Cyprian learned about the power of the cross, was baptized himself, and in time became a priest and bishop. Both Cyprian and Justin were brought before the court of Damascus by the pagans. They were then tortured and beheaded in Nicomedia, at the end of the 3rd century.
