Calendar for October 17 Saints Stefan and Jelena (Štiljanović)
Serbian Despot. Born in the village of Boljevići, near Virpazar, in Crmnica. He ruled the Serbian people in very difficult times, first as Prince of Paštrov, and then of Srem. A righteous man of God and a patriot, this wonderful prince can be compared to Saint Alexander Nevsky or Saint John Vladimir. He died at the beginning of the 16th century. At night, a light appeared on his grave, according to which his relics were found. His relics rested for a long time in the Šišatovac monastery on Fruška Gora, and then they were transferred to Belgrade, to the Cathedral Church, next to the relics of Saint Prince Lazar, where they are still located today. His wife Helena, seeing the incorrupt relics of her husband and the miracles that occurred from them, became a monk and devoted herself to asceticism until her death.
Hieromartyr Hierotheus. Venerable Ammon. Venerable Paul the Forgiving.
