Calendar for October 18 Holy Martyr Charitina
As an orphan, she was adopted by a prominent Christian man, Claudius, who raised her as his own daughter. Charitina studied the law of God day and night, and vowed to live in virginity, as a true bride of Christ. She also converted others to the faith of Christ, so that Domitian, the governor of Emperor Diocletian, heard about her. When she courageously confessed her faith in Christ before Domitian, he ordered her hair to be cut off. Then they threw fire on her head, but the holy virgin remained unharmed. They threw her into the sea, but God delivered her. They tied her to a wheel and began to turn it, but an angel of God stopped it. Then the judge sent some depraved young men to defile her. But she prayed to God, and God took her soul before they touched her.
Hieromartyr Dionysius, Bishop of Alexandria. Venerable Eudokim of Vatopedi. Venerable Damian, Jeremiah, and Matthew.
