Calendar for October 18 Holy Martyr Charitina
As an orphan, she was adopted by a prominent Christian man, Claudius, who raised her like his own daughter. Day and night, Charitina studied the law of God and vowed to live in virginity as a true bride of Christ. She also converted others to the faith of Christ, so that Domitian, the governor of Emperor Diocletian, heard about her. When she bravely confessed her faith in Christ before Domitian, he ordered that her hair be cut off. Afterward, burning coals were poured upon her head, but the holy virgin remained unharmed. They threw her into the sea, but God delivered her. They bound her to a wheel and began to turn it, but the angel of God stopped it. Then the judge sent some dissolute young men to defile her. But she prayed to God, and God took her soul before they could touch her.
Hieromartyr Dionysius, Bishop of Alexandria. Venerable Eudokimos of Vatopedi. Venerable Damian, Jeremiah, and Matthew.
