Calendar for October 19 Saint Thomas the Apostle – Thomas’ Day
One of the Twelve. He doubted that the Lord had risen. “Reach here your finger and see my hands; and reach out your hand and put it into my side; do not be unbelieving but believing” (John 20:27), the Lord said to him, and he answered: “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). He was chosen by lot to go preach in India. There he founded the Church of Christ. He converted the sisters Tertian and Mygdonia, the wives of two princes, to Christ. The engaged Dionysius and Pelagius, when they heard the Apostle, separated and gave themselves up to the asceticism. Pelagius died a martyr, and Dionysius the Apostle appointed him bishop. Prince Muzdius, whose wife Tertiana and son Azaeus were baptized by Saint Thomas, sent 5 soldiers who pierced the Apostle and thus he gave up his soul to the Lord.
Venerable New Martyr Macarius.
