Calendar for October 25 Holy Martyrs Tarachus, Probus and Andronicus
Tarachus was a native of Claudiopolis in Syria, Probus from Side in Pamphylia, and Andronicus the son of a famous citizen of Ephesus. All three, together, during the time of Emperor Diocletian, were tortured by the antipater Numerius Maximus. First they were beaten with rods, then they were thrown to the beasts in the theater. But the beasts were fond of them. Seeing this, many believed in Christ and began to shout at the antipater. This man, enraged by the beasts, ordered them to be beheaded. They were also cut into pieces and mixed with the bodies of the condemned that the beasts had previously dismembered. The Christians Macarius, Felix, and Verius came at night to collect the bodies of the martyrs to bury them, but they could not distinguish which were theirs. They prayed to God, and three candles appeared over the bodies of the saints.
Saint Martin, Bishop of Turkey. Venerable Cosmas of Mayum.
