Calendar for October 28 Holy Hieromartyr Lucian
Born in Samosata, Syria. In his youth, he received a broad education. He distributed his property to the poor and supported himself by composing instructive works. According to the Jewish text, he corrected many passages in the Holy Scriptures that had been distorted by heretics. He was ordained a presbyter in Antioch. During the persecution of Christians under Maximian, he was tortured by the heretical priest Pancratius. Then two boys, who did not want to eat from idol sacrifices, were thrown into a hot bath, where they died, and Lucian's disciple, the virgin Pelagia, threw herself from the roof in front of the debauched men. Lucian was brought to Nicomedia, before the emperor. Along the way, he converted 40 soldiers to Christ. All of them died a martyr's death. Saint Lucian gave up his soul to God in prison, in the year 311.
Venerable Euthymius the New.
