When the barbarians attacked the Roman Empire, Emperor Trajan sent for him. His comrades found him and he defeated the barbarians. On his way back to Rome, he found his wife and sons. Trajan had already died and Hadrian became emperor, who asked Eustathius to offer sacrifices to idols. When he said he was a Christian, put him to the torture, along with his wife and children. They tired them out in a red-hot ox.
