Calendar for October 30 Holy Prophet Hosea
Son of Beeri, from the tribe of Issachar. He lived and prophesied over 800 years before Christ, during the time of the Judean kings Hoshea, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, and the Israeli king Jeroboam II. His contemporaries were the holy prophets Isaiah, Micah and Amos. His prophetic words are found in the book named after him, which contains 14 chapters. He rebuked Israel and Judah for their idolatry, prophesied God's punishment for their sins, as he also prophesied the destruction of Samaria and Israel for their apostasy, but also God's mercy to the tribe of Judah. He also prophesied the abolition and cessation of the Old Testament sacrifice, the coming of the Lord and the wealth of gifts that He would bring to the earth with Him. He rested peacefully, in a deep old age.
