Born in Iconium, of pagan parents. When she was 18 years old, she was engaged. Then the Apostle Paul and Barnabas came to Iconium. After listening to the Apostle for three days, she converted to the faith of Christ and vowed to live in virginity. Her mother handed her over to the judge to be thrown into the fire, but God preserved her unharmed. In Antioch, the city elder accused her of being a Christian because she had rejected him. The prince threw her to the beasts, but they did not hurt her, so she was amazed and let her go. She worked as an ascetic in Seleucia, healing the sick and converting many to Christ. The doctors and sorcerers from Seleucia sent some young men to defile her. Fleeing from them, the old woman Thecla came to a rock, prayed to God, and she was opened. That rock was both her hiding place and her grave.
