Calendar for October 7 Saint Thecla, First Martyr

She was born in Iconium to pagan parents. At the age of eighteen, she was betrothed. It was then that the Apostle Paul arrived in Iconium with Barnabas. After listening to the Apostle for three days, she converted to the Christian faith and vowed to live in virginity. Her mother handed her over to a judge to be cast into the fire, but God preserved her unharmed. In Antioch, a city official accused her of being a Christian because she had rejected his advances. The governor threw her to wild beasts, but they did not touch her; amazed, he set her free. She lived an ascetic life near Seleucia, healing the sick and converting many to Christ. Physicians and healers from Seleucia sent young men to defile her. Fleeing from them, Thecla—now an elderly woman—came to a rock face; she prayed to God, and the rock opened. That rock became both her hiding place and her tomb.

Venerable Simon (Stefan the First-Crowned). Saint Vladislav, King. Venerable David (Prince Dimitrije Nemanjić).
