Calendar for October 8 Saint Sergius of Radonezh
A great ascetic and beacon of the Russian Church. He was born in 1313 in Rostov. After the death of his parents, he became a monk and founded the Holy Trinity Monastery in the Radonezh forests. Quiet and meek, he spent his time in work and prayer. And God granted him the gift of miracles. He resurrected the dead in the name of the Lord. The Most Holy Theotokos appeared to him more than once. Princes and bishops came to him for advice. He blessed Prince Dimitriy Donskoy and predicted the victory of the Russians over the Tatars in the war for the liberation of Russia. He could see into the depths of hearts and into events at a distance. His monastery was filled with monks even while he was alive and for centuries has been one of the main centers of spiritual life in the Orthodox world. He died in 1391.
