Calendar for September 12 Transfer of the relics of Saint Alexander Nevsky
He turned to God from a young age. He became Prince of Novgorod in 1236. Although weaker in the army, with God's help, he defeated the Swedes on the Neva River in 1240. In 1250 he became the Grand Duke of Vladimir. He did not want to worship idols in the Tatar Golden Horde. Because of his wisdom, courage, physical strength and beauty, he was also respected by the Tatar Khan. Sensing that his end was approaching, he became a monk with the name of Alexius, received communion and - gave up his soul. It was in 1263, when he was 43 years old. At the funeral, as if alive, he opened his hand and took a farewell note from the metropolitan. By order of Emperor Peter the Great, in 1724, his relics were transferred from Vladimir to Petrograd, to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, where they remain today.
