Calendar for September 15 Saint Mamant the Martyr
He was a native of Paphlagonia, born to Christian parents. His parents were cast into prison for the sake of Christ. There, his father passed away, and his mother died after giving birth to him. Thus, he was left as an infant in the prison amidst the dead bodies of his parents. An angel of God appeared in a dream to a widow named Amia and told her to take the child from the prison. Amia raised him in the Christian spirit, and he proved to be exceptionally bright in his studies. During the persecution under Emperor Aurelian, Mamant—who was only fifteen years old—was brought before the Emperor. As he steadfastly refused to renounce Christ, he was beaten with clubs and then cast into the sea. An angel saved him and led him to a mountain near Caesarea. Yet he was found there as well, and a pagan priest pierced him with a trident. His relics are wonder-working.
