Calendar for September 16 Holy priest-martyr Antim
Born in Nicomedia. He was the bishop of Nicomedia during the persecution of Christians under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. It was during the episcopate of St. Antimus that 20,000 Nicomidian martyrs died, on Christmas Day 302. St. Antimus took refuge in the village of Omanu, but one of his letters to the Christians in prison was caught and handed over to Emperor Maximian. The emperor sent 20 soldiers to find him. The wise old man led the soldiers into the house and entertained them, and only then told them who he was. Amazed by the old man, the soldiers suggested that he hide, and they will tell the emperor that they did not find him. He refused it. Along the way, the soldiers believed in Christ and Saint Antimus baptized them. After a long torture, Saint Antimus was cut with an axe. He died at the beginning of the 4th century.
Holy Martyr Vasilisa. Saint Joanikije, archbishop and first Serbian patriarch. Venerable Theoctistus.
