Calendar for September 25 Holy priest-martyr Avtonom
During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, as a bishop, he went from Italy to Soreos, to Bithynia in Asia. There he converted many to Christianity and built the church of Saint Michael the Archangel. He lived in the house of the Christian Cornelius, whom he ordained as a presbyter, and then as a bishop. Afterwards, Saint Autonom went to the nearby town of Limna, inhabited exclusively by heathens, and enlightened many with the Gospel. This angered the pagans, and one day they burst into the church of Saint Michael the Archangel during the service of God, killed Saint Autonomus in the altar, and many Christians in the temple itself. During the reign of Emperor Constantine, Grandmaster Sevirian built a temple on the grave of Saint Autonomus. His relics are incorruptible and miraculous.
