Calendar for September 4 - Holy Martyr Agathonikos
He lived in Nicomedia. With great zeal, he dissuaded Jeline from idolatry and taught them the faith of Christ. When the persecution of Christians began under Emperor Maximian, the imperial governor arrested Saint Zoticus in Carpina, crucified his disciples, and brought him to Nicomidia. In Nicomedia, in addition to Saint Agathonicus, he captured and bound Saints Princips, Theoprepius, Akindinus, Severianus, Zeno and many others. Then they took them all to Byzantium. But Saint Zoticus, Theoprepius and Akindinus died of wounds and exhaustion along the way. At Chalcedon they killed Saint Severianus, and Saint Agathonicus, together with the others, were brought to Silimvria in Thrace, where, after torture, they were cut with a sword in front of the emperor himself.
Holy Martyr Eulalia. Holy Martyr Antus. Holy priest-martyr Gorazd Česki.
