Calendar for September 8 Holy Martyrs Adrian and Natalia
Husband and wife, from Nicomedia. Adrian was the chief praetor and a pagan, and Natalia was a secret Christian. When Emperor Maximian visited Nicomedia, 23 Christians were captured in a cave near the city. They were beaten and thrown into prison. When they were brought before the praetor, Adrian made them swear to tell him what they expected from their God when they suffered so much for him. Then he said to the praetor: “Write my name with theirs.” Natalia was very happy and served everyone in prison. They gave up their souls to God when their hands and feet were broken on the anvil. Natalia transferred their relics to Constantinople. After a few days, Saint Adrian appeared to her in all his glory, called her, and she gave up her soul to God. They lived in marriage for only 13 months.
