CHILDREN IN THE CHURCH OF ST. VASILIJ OF OSTROŠKI IN DOBROTA

“Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these,” recalled the words of Christ today at the Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog in Dobrota, the retired parish priest of Orahovac and Perast, Archpriest-Stavroph Radoslav Laketa.

Among others, a large number of our youngest parishioners received communion at the liturgy, and Fr. Radoslav said that today’s feast of the Children is celebrated on the third Sunday before Christmas.

As Radio Svetigora writes, "on that day, early in the morning, or upon returning from church after a service, adults tie their own or other people's children. A belt, cord or ordinary rope, or ordinary thicker thread, is usually used for tying. Usually, the legs or arms are tied, and one part of the rope is tied to a table or chair. Tying to Children, Mothers and Fathers has multiple symbolism. First, it symbolizes strong family ties, harmony, peace, respect and mutual assistance in all circumstances. Second, it directs the household to thrift and perseverance in virtues, because the one who possesses honestly earned property and good deeds will easily redeem himself in all disputes before earthly courts, and especially at the last Last Judgment, where only what a person has done well in his life will be valued. Good and thrifty children collect some funds "By saving, they acquire some honor for that day and they obey those who bind them."
