Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus consecrated in Donji Grbalj; first Liturgy after 130 years

His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Mr. Joanikije, today, November 9, 2025, when we prayerfully remember the Holy Martyr Nestor, consecrated the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus in the village of Višnjeva – Donji Grbalj, and served the first Holy Liturgy there with the clergy and faithful.
At the end of the Holy Service of God, His Eminence the Metropolitan greeted the congregation with the joyful greeting of Christ the Risen One, reminding them that the Lord has risen and given us new life, so that every Sunday – the day of the Resurrection of Christ, as well as today on the twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost – we gather and celebrate Christ’s and our victory over death:
“For the Lord Jesus Christ, by His resurrection, has made us participants in His victory over death and His eternal glory, and we experience that glory, we partake of it, we are enriched by it, we are clothed in it at every holy service when we gather, and especially on feast days, such as this day.”
Before our eyes, as the Bishop said, is a visible sign of the Resurrection of Christ – the consecration of the renovated church, which was built from old foundations, and that this modest church dates back to ancient times, from the Nemanjić era or even earlier. The Metropolitan recalled that the locals, due to the troubles that befell us in the 20th century, did not succeed in their intention to build a larger church, which is the reason why it was never consecrated or fully completed before, and what was built was damaged in the earthquake of 1979. https://mitropolija.com/2025/11/09/u-donjem-grblju-osvestana-crkva-sv-sergija-i-vakha-prava-liturgije-poslije-130-godina/
