Emir Kusturica awarded the Order of the Venerable Seraphim of Sarovski
On December 3, 2024, the Russian premiere of the documentary film “People of Christ. Our Time”, dedicated to the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the state authorities of Ukraine, was held in the Church Council Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. One of the creators of the film is Emir Kusturica, who also attended the premiere.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia also attended the premiere. The film’s actors also greeted those present. At the beginning of the ceremony, Serbian director, screenwriter and producer Jovan Marković addressed the audience. He stated that a large international team worked on the film, including residents of Ukraine. The welcoming speech of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin was read by the Minister of Defense A.R. Belousov. The participants of the premiere were also addressed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, who on that occasion presented the director, screenwriter and film producer Emir Kusturica with the Order of the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, first degree.
The premieres were attended by: Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate; Bishop Stefan of Remezia, Head of the Courtyard of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Moscow; Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, Advisor to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; V.R. Legoyda, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Relations of the Church with Society and the Media; as well as representatives of state authorities, public life and cultural figures.
