FATHER NEMANJA KRIVOKAPIĆ: THE WORD OF GOD HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ALL, IT IS UP TO US HOW WE ACCEPT IT
Most of Christ's sermons were about the Kingdom of God, while today's Gospel speaks more about our attitude towards what we hear about it and whether we accept it as the center of our lives, said in today's sermon in the Church of St. Nicholas in Kotor, the hierarchal vicar of Kotor and Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, archpriest-staurophor Nemanja Krivokapić.
"The Kingdom of God was founded by God Himself, Who is eternal, Who created everything for us people so that our life would have meaning. If this life were only for these 70, 80, 100 years, then it would not have any great meaning," said Father. Nemanja, then asking if God has prepared the Kingdom for us, why doesn't He simply send us there, but rather teach us how to attain it.
He continues that this is so because God created man in His own image and likeness.
"We humans are God-like, and the basic characteristic of God-likeness is that we have free will and that we decide for ourselves what we want and what we don't want. God wants us to want to enter the Kingdom of God with our own free will, to make an effort to attain it. He respects our free will, and He respects even if someone does not want to be with Him. Of course, there are those. And the devil knows about God. He is not an atheist, he knows that God exists, but he does not want to be with Him," said Fr. Nemanja, recalling Holy Saturday when the Lord Jesus Christ preached in Hell and those who believed and went to Paradise.
He continued by saying that in addition to desire, effort is also required to enter the Kingdom of God, which also shows that one is worthy of it.
"It is up to us to strive, to build ourselves up and to improve ourselves through virtues and effort and to do everything as those who are worthy of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, everything we do, we do for God, but more for ourselves. God does not need it, we need it. Our effort is so that we can be better and worthy of the Kingdom of God. The Word of God has been given to everyone. In one way or another, everyone has the opportunity to hear the truth. It is up to us how we will accept it. Those who are not interested in it are the first ones in this story who had the seed fall by the wayside. There are those who find the story interesting but are not motivated enough to make the effort. The majority are those, both among us and those others and third parties, who heard the word of God, became interested, became Christians, were baptized, but when temptations begin, when some earthly cares begin, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures, they occupy us and turn us off the path," said Fr. Nemanja.
He also states that of course we all have to live in this world, earn money.
"We have obligations to our family, children... It goes without saying that every good householder takes care of that, but it should not become a preoccupation, what they will earn, what they will eat. Balance in what needs to be done, but so that it does not become a preoccupation and the center of thought, is the art of Christian life. The center of our thinking is the Kingdom of God. That is what we strive for and strive for and what we should think about every day, where we are and how far we have come on our path to the Kingdom of God. The Church reminds us of that through the Holy Gospels and this Gospel story, which is precisely intended to remind us to think about where we are on our path to the Kingdom of God," said Fr. Nemanja.
Gospel of Luke, Genesis 35. (8,5-15)
5. A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and was trodden down, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6. And some fell on a rock; and as it sprang up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. 8. And some fell on good ground, and sprang up, and brought forth fruit a hundredfold. As he said this, he cried out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear!” 9. And his disciples asked him, “What does this parable mean?” 10. And he said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God; but to the rest it is in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. 11. Now this is the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12. And those along the path are those who hear, but then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13. And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, and believe for a while, but in time of temptation fall away. 14. And those who fell among the thorns are those who, having heard, go on living in worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and they choke it, and it does not bring forth fruit. 15. But those on the good ground are those who, having heard the word, in an honest and good heart keep it, and bear fruit with patience.” Saying this, he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
