FATHER NENAD KALEM : LET US ALWAYS BE WITNESSES AND BEARERS OF DIVINE LIGHT
Today, the Church of St. Nicholas in Kotor celebrated the feast Preobraženje of the Lord with prayer and solemnity, with which our Holy Church celebrates the miraculous event on Mount Tabor, when the Lord Jesus Christ revealed the glory of His Divinity to His disciples Peter, James and John.
In the glory of God and in honor of the great feast, the hierarchal vicar of Kotor-Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, archpriest – stavrophor Nemanja Krivokapić, together with the clergy, performed the consecration and blessing of grapes, thereby reminding us that all creation is a gift from God and that it is called to be sanctified and transformed.
Archpriest Nenad Kalem spoke about the Transfiguration of the Lord, which he said is “a holiday of light, joy and love.”
“The Lord took His three beloved disciples, Peter, John, and James, to Mount Tabor and, as the Holy Gospel describes, He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His garments became white as light.
That light did not shine from the field, but from within. It was the light of love with which Christ loved, with which He transformed everything He saw and touched and spoke about. That Divine light, which appeared to the disciples, is an uncreated and uncreated light. It is God Himself, the very presence of God, the energy of God, the action of God, a visit from above, by which the glory of God is revealed to people.
Divine energies, hitherto inaccessible and unknowable, permeated the material body and it began to shine. By performing miracles, the Lord showed His divine power and authority to the disciples, and Here, during the Transfiguration, He reveals the inaccessible Divinity. He also shows His Divine nature, but not completely, but only as much as they, as men, could bear.
That is why they could not perceive the Divine essence, but only saw a fragment of the Divine glory, and that little bit knocked them to the ground and they fell as if dead. Everything that the Lord Jesus Christ did during His Divine mission had its own deep meaning and purpose. So now He calls us to feel and receive that light within ourselves.
The Lord calls us to climb with Him to a high mountain, to understand that life is an ascent and a struggle, to be permeated with His light and our whole life to change and so that what the Lord Himself said would happen to us, so that “your light may shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” heavens”.
We are sinful people and we sin constantly, but God has given us the grace of salvation in Christ, through faith and repentance, through moral and spiritual, and then complete psychophysical transformation in the kingdom of Christ, the kingdom of divine light.
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, we should listen to God, to listen to the Son of God, as He said on Mount Tabor: “Listen to Him”. By listening to Him, we do the will of God, and not our own sinful and biased will, because we know that there is no other path for man than the slow and difficult ascent to Mount Tabor. It is precisely because of all this that the Church of Christ celebrates the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord that it may also become our transfiguration and that the doors of divine light may be opened to us. That is why we sing in the troparion of today's feast - “May Your light shine on us sinners eternal", that with this prayer we expect and send off the joy of transformation, that this light may be within us, that we may not neglect it, that we may always and everywhere be witnesses and bearers of this eternal Divine light. Glory to You Who showed us the light, happy holiday, amen", said Fr. Nenad.
