FUNERAL LITURGY ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF FATHER MOMO
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the repose of Archpriest-staurophor Momčilo Krivokapić, a repose liturgy was celebrated today (03.05.2025) in the Church in Škaljari.
The parish priest of Tivat, Archpriest Mijajlo Backović, began his address at the grave with the words "Christ is Risen, You are Truly Risen", which, as he pointed out, Father Momo lived during his earthly life.
"And truly, that echo has been resonating for centuries in the heart of every Christian, it also resounds in our Holy Temples, serving the Holy Liturgy, that echo is the echo of the greatest gift of man, and that is the empty tomb of Christ in Jerusalem. Is there a greater victory, brothers and sisters and dear children, than the victory of the Resurrection of Christ, and is there a greater gift than the fullness of the empty tomb of Christ in Jerusalem?
Every time we stand on the graves of people who witnessed this very victory and lived the life of the victory of the Resurrection of Christ, on the graves of our holy ancestors, we are not standing on the grave of sorrow, the grave of mourning, the grave of the end, but at the gates of the beginning of eternal life, eternal and imperishable.
And today, brothers and sisters, when we came to this temple, we felt a certain sadness in our hearts, because at the doors of the Church we will not find the one who was a guide for many of us and taught us how to live precisely with that victory of eternal life. But as soon as we came to this place and saw his image here, we were no longer sad. And every time we come to this place, we talk to Father Mom, we talk and consult with each other about what to do, and this shows that there is no end, that this is only the beginning, where the one who crossed these doors and passed through these doors of the tomb becomes close to all of us. From that moment until today, each of us can talk to that man. He can be with him, to consult with him, to talk with him in prayers. While we live and walk in this world, we are inaccessible to many. The speed of this world and the turbulent life of this sea on which we travel is merciless and very often separates us from the people we love, and even during this earthly life we do not see them and do not meet them and we are sad about it. We should also look at this moment, that after five years of leaving, we know that we will meet him again and we believe in it. We try to live the life that he taught us, and that is always a human life.
We did not need to learn anything from Father Mom other than to be a man like he was. And it was not anything sublime in theology that he told us. He simply taught us to be people. And that simple thing, to be a man, is not at all simple. That is the most difficult thing. It is easy to read many books of worship and pleasing to God and hear many beautiful sermons. It is easy to get carried away and at that moment feel something beautiful in your heart, but it is not easy, brothers and sisters and dear children, to live by those words. The ease of life in the Gospel, which our father Momo carried with him, gave us the ease to simplify our life, which is often complicated. Therefore, the one who narrowed down to Christ, the crucified Christ, but also to Christ Who rose and conquered death, has gathered us together today after five years and brings us together at every liturgy in every prayer and in every conversation, us who have gathered here today.
And the name of Father Mom will not cease to be mentioned as long as there are people who believed in his words, and his words were not his but the words of eternity, the words of the Gospel by which he lived. That word that was resurrected through the life and priestly ministry of Father Mom, it will never die. And when the body leaves this earth, as his did, awaiting the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come and the second coming of Christ, we have not and will never forget what he taught us.
That is why I am not sad today. I miss him more than I am sad and I miss his conversations and his passage through the Church and that speed and energy when he has a problem in his life. But that is why I know where I will come and where I will consult with him, and that is when I descend into my heart, wherever he is.
May the Lord rest his good soul in the Kingdom of Heaven, where all his ancestors are, from Kosovo to Kosovo and to this day, and where the Resurrection of Christ and the light of the Resurrection of Christ are, in which he lived during his earthly life.
May it be for health, for salvation, for comfort and for memory to the family and all of you, because the greatest gift to us, after the Resurrection of Christ, is to remember that Resurrection and the people we met on this journey we call life. They were our companions, and many of them were also our signposts. May the Lord grant that we have and encounter more such signposts in this life that will lead us to the Resurrection of Christ and the general resurrection of eternal life. Christ is Risen,” said Father Mijajlo.
President of the Serbian Orthodox Church of Kotor Miso Sekulovic, addressing the family of Father Momo, the clergy and the people gathered at his eternal resting place at the Škaljari cemetery next to the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, said that today, on the fifth anniversary of his repose, we are reminded of a great loss for our Church, our city and all believers individually.
“We will always remember that Father Momo, during his fifty years of service as the hierarchal vicar for Boka, gathered us under the auspices of our one and only Serbian Orthodox Church. We will not forget that he brought those who had strayed from the faith back to themselves and their spiritual vertical.
With his personality, honorable and virtuous life, together with his life companion Smiljka, he withstood all pressures and managed to strengthen us even more in the faith that a life filled with virtues conquers death.
May my father rest in peace and eternal peace, and the obligation of the members of the Church Community of Kotor is to be His followers in accordance with the Christian principles of our Church. We wish our father Momo's family all the best and progress," said Sekulović.
The hierarchal vicar of Boka Kotor, Archpriest-Staurophor Momčilo Krivokapić, reposed in the Lord on April 29, 2020.
Just a year earlier, Father Momo celebrated five decades of priestly service, which he performed in Kotor from the first day of his ordination as a deacon, and then as a priest, with dedication and devotion until his last breath.
Eternal memory and the Kingdom of Heaven, dear Father Momo!
