The Government of Montenegro has approved the erection of a monument to Metropolitan Amfilohije in Kolašin, writes Portal RTCG.

The decision was proposed by the Ministry of Culture and Media, after the Municipality of Kolašin submitted a request for the construction of the monument.

According to Portal RTCG, the decision was made at today's telephone session of the Government.

When submitting the request, the municipality stated that they were pleased that the Municipality of Kolašin had taken the first step in preserving the memory of the late Metropolitan Amfilohije.

Metropolitan Amfilohije passed away in 2020.

The Government of Montenegro, as the RTCG Portal learns, has considered the Information on the fulfillment of the conditions for granting prior consent for the erection of a memorial by constructing a monument to the late Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amphilochius, based on the provisions of Article 9, paragraph 2 of the Law on Memorials, which was prepared and submitted by the Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM).

The Government adopted the Information on the fulfillment of the conditions for granting prior consent for the erection of a memorial by constructing a monument to Metropolitan Amphilochius before the expiration of the legal deadline prescribed by the provisions of Article 9, paragraph 2 of the Law on Memorials.

Thus, the Government granted prior consent to the Municipality of Kolašin for the erection of a memorial to Metropolitan Amphilochius.

"The Ministry of Culture and Media is hereby instructed to carry out further proceedings, in accordance with the Law on Memorials, at the request of the Municipality of Kolašin for the erection of a memorial by constructing a monument to the late Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije," the Government's conclusion states, RTCG reports.

In January 2023, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Joanikije, during a visit to the Municipality of Kolašin, signed a contract with the then Mayor of the Municipality, Vladimir Martinović, which provided financial resources in the amount of 50,000 euros for the construction and installation of a memorial to Metropolitan Amfilohije.

"Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Joanikije expressed his gratitude for the noble idea and valuable donation, which will serve to erect a memorial monument in his hometown to the good hierarch of the Church of Christ, the late Metropolitan Amfilohije," the RTCG Portal reminds.
