LITURGICALLY CELEBRATED TEMPLE SOLEMNITY OF THE CHURCH OF SAINT VASILIJE OSTROŠKI IN DOBROTA
Numerous believers participated today in the Holy Liturgy, which was celebrated on the occasion of Sveti Vasilije Ostroški, the temple celebration of the Church of the same name in Dobrota, by the hierarchal vicar of Kotor-Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, and the archpriest - stavrophor Nemanja Krivokapić, with the clergy of the Kotor parishes.
In his sermon next to the belt with the relics of Saint Basil, which is kept in the Church of Dobrota, Archpriest Nenad Kalem emphasized the significance of today's holy holiday "which is the holiday of love manifested in the person of Saint Basil of Ostrog and the Tvrdoš Miracle Worker".
"One of the true witnesses of the Resurrection of Christ, Saint Basil, did not live at the time of Christ, but with his life he bore witness to faith in the Risen Christ, to whom he dedicated his entire life by fulfilling God's commandments. The hymn, or Troparion to Saint Basil, which the Church sings at the divine service, begins with the words "From your youth you have dedicated yourself entirely to the Lord." These words reflect the essence of the personality of this God-pleaser and Ostrog hermit.
As a boy of 12, he went to his uncle, Abbot Seraphim, in the Zavala Monastery, and after a few years he moved to the Tvrdoš Monastery, where he attended monastery schools and learned church literacy. There he received the priesthood and continued his life carrying his cross, living the sacrifice of the cross and resurrection for his people, constantly teaching the faith of Christ.
Imbued with patience, humility, and deep and unwavering faith, he strengthened his people in their unwavering struggle for spiritual and political liberation, loving both God and neighbor in all the places he was - in the Patriarchate of Pec, the Holy Mountain, Russia, the Wallachian lands, and again in his Herzegovina and in the Ostrog beam, where his holy relics rest.
Eve and we today, gathered here in the Church dedicated to this holy and wonderful Saint and next to the belt that was on the relics of Saint Basil, which we keep here in this Church, must draw a lesson and a message from today's holy feast.
What is Saint Basil of Ostrog telling us? First of all, our faith should be firm and strong, a deep Orthodox faith, unshakable, because faith is to human life what the root is to a tree. If the root is rotten, the tree has no life. Such a healthy faith gives birth to a healthy mind, and a healthy mind purifies the heart and gives love, and our life is a test of whether our faith is true.
The way we live, we will show whether we are true believers, and Saint Basil showed us with his feat, his deeds, how to obtain grace and mercy from God. That is why we also celebrate today and pray to him and ask that he pray for us sinners before our Creator.
May everyone have a happy holiday, glory and mercy to Saint Basil, amen, God grant it,” said Father Nenad.
