Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral: Notice of Gatherings on Christmas Day
We inform all clergy, believers and the general public that special attention should be paid to the fact that this year's gatherings for the blessing and laying of the Christmas tree, due to the tragic events in Cetinje, are being held exclusively in accordance with the liturgical order and in a prayerful mood, without planned musical and stage performances on those days, which should be postponed until further notice. This pre-holiday act on the eve of the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ has its own significant place in our church and folk tradition, which is particularly reflected in the rich customs in our family homes.
In recent decades, and due to life in cities, the assembly of the Christmas tree in front of parish and monastery churches has become extremely popular. This practice is blessed and is not contrary to the ethos and nature of the Church, but it is necessary that every segment of these celebrations be focused on the essential message of the Christmas holiday.
Faced with the madness of terrible violence that we are witnessing for the second time in a relatively short period of time, it is necessary to return to love for God and our neighbors. The only things we should avoid and hate are sin, theocraticism, and brotherly hatred. These are the enemies of the human race, and we are brothers and sisters to each other, since we are sons and daughters of a common heavenly Father.
Therefore, in brotherly and sisterly love and harmony, let us welcome the saving day of the birth of Christ, cultivating peace and goodwill among ourselves.
