Morning Topic: The Feast of the Nativity
In this Monday's Morning Topic, we talked about the feast of the Nativity.
The guest of the show was Archpriest-Staurophorus Nemanja Krivokapić, the archpriestly vicar of Kotor-Tivat, who shared the story of the richness of our faith, traditions, customs and the meaning of the feast of the Nativity.
The feast of the Nativity is, as Father Nemanja emphasized, an opportunity for the family to gather in prayer and gratitude.
During the conversation, he spoke about the origin of the custom, the method of choosing a family saint, about his feast and what it was like in childhood, as well as about the differences in the celebration in Boka Kotorska and other parts of Montenegro.
He especially reminded that the feast is celebrated prayerfully — by participating in the Holy Liturgy, where the feast cake and grain are offered as a sign of gratitude to the Lord. After the service, the slava continues in the family home – it is a prayerful encounter with God and our ancestors, but also an opportunity to preserve the spiritual heritage and strengthen the family community.
Father Nemanja also sent a message to young people who are taking over the household and pointed out that they should preserve the true meaning of the slava and seek advice about it.
The slava teaches us that every home is a sanctuary when love, prayer and gratitude dwell in it. As long as incense smells in our homes and the slava cake is broken – we will last too.
