PRESIDENT JOKIĆ HOSTED RELIGIOUS DIGNITIES ON THE OCCASION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KOTOR
A traditional reception for religious dignitaries was held today, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Municipality of Kotor.
The meeting was hosted by the President of the Municipality of Kotor, Vladimir Jokić, and was attended by the Deputy President of the Municipality, Dr. Igor Kumburović, the President of the Assembly of the Municipality of Kotor, Maja Mršulja, and the Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture, Sports and Social Activities, Tatjana Kriještorac.
The reception was attended by the Archbishop's Vicar of Kotor-Tivat, the parish priest of Kotor, Archpriest-Staurophorus Nemanja Krivokapić, Bishop Fra Mladen Vukšić, Chancellor of the Diocese of Kotor Don Robert Tonsati, and Fra Dragan Ružić.
The Chief Imam for Boka Kotorska and Budva, Effendi Meho Martinović, was unable to attend due to prior commitments.
The President of the Municipality of Kotor, Vladimir Jokić, thanked those present for coming, emphasizing that the reception to mark the Day of the Municipality is an important tradition and an opportunity to discuss current issues and joint projects.
He reminded that November 21, the Day of the Municipality, coincides with major religious holidays and obligations of representatives of religious communities, which is why the meeting is being held earlier. Jokić emphasized that this is also a space for discussing cooperation between the Municipality and religious communities.
“The Municipality of Kotor annually allocates a portion of its funds for the reconstruction of religious buildings and support for their social activities. Last year, we had a number of significant investments, some of which we were unable to implement for formal reasons, but we will carry over the rest to next year,” the Mayor said.
He highlighted the renovation of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Risan and the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Prčanj as the most important investments.
“These are capital projects and will be among the priorities in the coming year as well. The Municipality will consider everything you consider important and be a partner,” he told the religious dignitaries.
In the continuation of the reception, the archbishop's deputy of Kotor-Tivat, Archpriest-Staurophorus Nemanja Krivokapić, Bishop Fra Mladen Vukšić and other representatives of religious communities thanked for the reception and congratulated on the Day of the Municipality of Kotor, as well as the upcoming holidays, while Don Robert Tonsati recalled the significant assistance of the Municipality of Kotor in the restoration of the valuable organ from the Church of the Help of Christians on Mula.
In the conversation with the mayor, they touched on numerous current topics, including the challenges of mass tourism, traffic jams in Kotor, but also plans for future joint festive programs and cultural initiatives.
