Spiritual funerals
Memorials (Greek: Ψυχοσάββατο); Saturdays dedicated to remembrance and prayers for the deceased; special days when at services: liturgies, memorial services, distribution of alms, arrangement of graves, due respect is paid to deceased members of the family and the Church. The Church prays for the departed every Saturday, especially the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturdays of Easter Lent, and remembers all the departed Christians, our fathers and brothers. However, in addition to these regular Saturday prayer days, the Church has designated special days during the Church year, which are called memorial days. They always fall on Saturday.
Remembrance Day is a day dedicated to the deceased, so you should go to the church service, visit the graves, pour wine over them, arrange and decorate them with flowers and light candles. It is customary to serve a Liturgy at funerals, where the priest pours wine over the brought grain (koljivo), and after the service we go to the cemeteries, where candles are lit, and priests visit and incense the graves. Those who are unable to go to the cemeteries due to distance, should go to the nearest temple, and pay their respects there. Since it is a day when special attention is paid to the distribution of alms, every beggar we meet must be given alms and some of the food we brought with us.
Spiritual funerals
Also known as summer memorial services, they are always held on Saturday before the Ghosts (Descent of the Holy Spirit). On that day, there is a commemoration "for all the pious Christians, our fathers and brothers from the beginning of time." And on this Saturday, the Church prays for all those who have fallen asleep in the desert, in cities, at sea, on earth, in every place and enumerates kings, priests , archpriests, monks and all in every universal age from Adam to this day.
