Svetigora ready for the 68th International Book Fair in Belgrade

The publishing house of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral "Svetigora" is diligently preparing for its participation in the upcoming 68th International Book Fair in Belgrade, which will be held from October 25 to November 2.
The new editor of Svetigora's publishing activities, Archpriest Aleksandar Lekić, for whom this is his first participation in the Belgrade Book Fair in this obedience, told our portal that Svetigora has high expectations for the upcoming fair, and that it will be a great opportunity to present new publications but also to meet with Svetigora's faithful readers.

“Svetigora will participate in the Belgrade Book Fair this year, as in previous years. Given that it is the largest book fair in our region – a kind of celebration of books and readers, expectations are high. The Belgrade Book Fair is an event that brings together a large number of people and allows readers to meet with publishers, meetings that focus on books and conversations about books at the stand itself, so it is an opportunity to hear some suggestions from visitors, our readers, or what they expect from Svetigora as an exceptional publishing house that already has a serious thirty-year history of publishing.”

He said that visitors to the Svetogorin stand can, first of all, expect what they have been waiting for in previous years, and on which they have worked diligently – the Selected Works of the Blessed Retired Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amphilochius, which, in terms of publishing, are the crowning achievement of Svetogorin's thirty-year work in the field of books.

"That capital undertaking lasted fifteen years and was completed with new books that were published after his death. It is an extraordinary work of a team of people, led by the previous editor and director, Archpriest-Staurophor Radomir Nikčević. Those who have not had the opportunity to become acquainted with the Metropolitan's written legacy, or perhaps have read some of it and not others, will now have the opportunity through what Svetigora will offer this year at the Belgrade Fair, which is 38 books with over 16,000 pages. In addition, we have some new publications that we have already mentioned, a book about the chapel on Lovćen - Dragi moj mučeniče, then the books: Mornaru ima ko da piše, Mastanije, Sabranja djela archimandrite Dionysij Mikovića, Zbornik radova s scientifičnih konferencih ostojanju nasce na zidani most, a book about the Holy Martyr Mihajlo Barbić. These are some new editions and of course some older books that do not lose their quality over time. ”

The editor of Svetigora’s publishing activities noted that the subject matter of Svetigora’s publications is diverse.

“The Metropolitan’s works themselves offer a wide range of all possible topics and areas, considering that the Metropolitan was such a person and that he plowed his way in all fields. The book of Mastanija is a book for children, and as always, there will be something for adults, something for children, spiritual, historical and other, for our readers, important topics on offer.”

He invited all book lovers to visit Svetigora’s stand at the upcoming International Book Fair in Belgrade, and emphasized the importance, as he put it, of “listening to what is necessary and useful to the reader in our time.”

"A message for readers to come, to visit us at the stand, to talk about books, to see what we have to present this year, and also for us to hear from our faithful readers, whether they have anything to tell us that we could publish in the future. We need to listen to the audience and try to meet the wishes of the people. To hear what they would like to see published, and also to listen together to what is needed in this time, what kind of word is needed. Of course, Svetigora is preparing a lot more for implementation, God willing, in the coming period, so we will, let me say, be even more prepared at the next fair in Belgrade," concluded Archpriest Aleksandar Lekić, editor of Svetigora's publishing activities.

As stated on the Svetigora Publishing Instagram page, “Svetigora has published over 1,000 printed editions in 33 years of publishing activity, and in order to roughly understand Svetigora’s publishing work, it could be said that Svetigora published one printed edition every 12 days during these 33 years.”
