The Holy Martyrs Trophimus, Sabbatius, and Dorymedon
During the reign of Emperor Probus in the 3rd century, the Christians Trophimus and Sabbatius arrived in Antioch. At that very time, sacrifices to Apollo were being offered in Daphne, near Antioch. Upon seeing that the newcomers were not participating in the sacrifice, people reported them to Atticus, the governor of Antioch, who brought them to trial. Because they refused to renounce Christ, he subjected them to torture. He first tortured Trophimus and then sent him to Phrygia to the tormentor Dionysius. Next, he subjected Sabbatius to torture; he was beaten, tormented, and scraped with iron instruments until the flesh was torn from his bones. Sabbatius expired amidst these torments. While Trophimus was imprisoned under Dionysius, the senator Dorymedon—a secret Christian—visited and ministered to him. The tormentor cast them both before wild beasts and finally had them beheaded with a sword.
