His Eminence Bishop of Diocletia, Mr. Paisje, served today, on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy in the Church of St. George in Orahovac, with the concelebration of the clergy and the participation of the faithful.
The feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the votive slava of this Perast town, and since 2019, the Assumption procession through the town has been renewed.
In his sermon after the reading of the Gospel, Bishop Paisje recalled the dream of the Old Testament Patriarch Jacob, in which he saw a ladder resting on the earth and reaching to heaven, which, according to the interpretation of the Church, is the original image of the Most Holy Theotokos.
“Certainly, it was a prophetic image of what was about to happen. That is, she gave birth to the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, who was true and eternal God, but also true man, who took upon Himself the entire nature of man and healed him, thus enabling us not only to marvel at what He had done, but also to be saved ourselves and to be heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven.”
The Bishop added that we are also familiar with events in which holy people of God saw the Most Holy Theotokos protecting Christians throughout the universe with her omophorion.
He explained that today we celebrate the feast of her repose, and that for those who link their lives to heavenly repose, it is a day of joy, not sorrow….
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, a procession led by Bishop Paisje passed through Orahovac. Upon returning to the church, on behalf of the parishioners and on his own behalf, Father Jovan Vasić expressed his gratitude for this day and service.
He emphasized that this is a special day in the history of Orahovac, because Bishop Paisij is the first bishop to lead the procession through this place.
