Bishop Paisios received the Ministers of Culture of Greece and Montenegro at the Cetinje Monastery
The Minister of Culture of the Hellenic Republic, Dr. Lina Mendoni, and the Minister of Culture and Media of Montenegro, Dr. Tamara Vujović, visited the Cetinje Monastery on Sunday, November 23, where they were received by His Eminence Bishop Paisios of Diocletia.
Their visit was preceded by the opening of expert workshops dedicated to modern methods of icon conservation in the Government House, as well as a visit to the National Museum and the icon of the Mother of God Filermosa.
The expert workshops at the Government House in Cetinje are being implemented as a result of the efforts of both ministers, and with the aim of deepening the important cooperation between Montenegro and Greece in the field of cultural heritage protection and exchange of expert knowledge.
The Minister of Culture and Media of Montenegro, Dr. Tamara Vujović, welcomed the Greek conservation experts and in her address emphasized the importance of cooperation with Greek institutions, stating that concrete cooperation represents a direct transfer of expertise and modern approaches to sustainable management of cultural resources.
The Minister of Culture of the Hellenic Republic, Dr. Lina Mendoni, said:
“I am convinced that our two countries will be even more strongly connected and that the path in this cooperation is clearly marked. The mere presence of the experts here demonstrates the willingness of the Greek Government to share its knowledge, but also our desire to learn from your experts. Our arrival here confirms our will to make the cooperation even more intense.”
Expert Maria Mertzoni from the “Directorate for the Conservation of Ancient and Movable Monuments of the Ministry of Culture of Greece” presented the work of this service, explaining that it is a central institution responsible for the conservation of movable art and decorations on immovable monuments, such as murals and mosaics.
