Calendar for April 2 - Venerable fathers killed in the monastery of Saint Sava the Sanctified
The Monastery of St. Sava the Sanctified was ravaged by the Arabs several times, but it was always restored and preserved to this day. That's how the Arabs attacked it during the time of Emperor Constantine and Empress Irina. The monks consulted with Abbot Tom and stayed in the monastery. They fled from the world to the desert for the love of Christ, and remained to suffer for that same Love. The Arabs killed some of them with arrows, and imprisoned others in the cave of Saint Sava the Sanctified, then set fire in front of it and suffocated them with smoke. They were martyred before Easter in 796. And the wild attackers, returning to their tents, quarreled and killed each other. In this monastery, Saint Sava the Serbian received the icons of the Three-Journal and the Mother of God, and the crucifix.
Holy Martyr Photina. Easter fast.
